Elisha s Well by Pietro Lorenzetti
1328-29
Tempera on wood
Pinacoteca Nazionale, Siena
This is one of the predella pictures of the altarpiece made for the Carmelite Church in Siena. The painting depicts a rocky landscape on Mount Carmel, in the foreground the well which according to tradition was opened up by Prophet Elisha. Scenes from the life of Carmelite hermits are represented both beside the well and the background.
